AMA SUPERBIKE SERIES
ROUNDS 1-2/MARCH 14-15, 2014
DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY/DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA
P38
gap to fourth place in both races
was nearly identical – a yawning
21.6 and 21.4 seconds, respec-
tively. That was to the third Yo-
shimura Suzuki, ridden by Chris
Clark, the Las Vegas resident
enjoying the best weekend of his
Superbike career.
ADR Motorsports' David An-
thony was the man who chased
Clark across the finish line, the
Australian team owner/racer
coming up a hair short in both
races. Anthony suffered the
same fate as Hayden and zillions
more before him at Daytona – he
lost out to a faster motorcycle.
The same can be said for KTM/
HMC's Chris Fillmore, though
Daytona was never a place where
the KTM was going to shine and
Fillmore knew it. He left with solid
points and was pleased with it.
The rest of the top 10? Those
spots were also identical in both
races – except for 10
th
place.
Argentinian Diego Pierlu-
igi beat TOBC Racing's Taylor
Knapp by .096 of a second on
Friday and by .091 of a second
on Saturday for seventh place.
Team AMSOIL Hero's Cory West
battled with those two on both
days, coming up .083 of a sec-
ond and 1.03 seconds short in
the two races. Ouch.
Tenth place on Thursday went
to DMS Stefano Mesa on a Ka-
wasaki ZX10R. On Friday it as
GEICO Honda's Chris Ulrich
rounding out the top 10.
Trying Both Ways
Hayden tried to win the two
races in two different ways. On
Friday, he opted to try and draft
past Hayes at the finish line and
came up .025 of a second short.
On Saturday, he figured he'd try
something else. He'd try leading
out of the chicane. Again, it didn't
work, losing to Beaubier by .090
of a second. He lost both races
by a combined .115 of a second -
.115 of a second. A gnat's penis is
bigger than that.
The Graves Yamahas were
fast. Really fast. Especially Beau-
bier's.
"It was my only chance,"
Hayden said of his attempt at
blitzing the chicane and pulling
enough of a gap to take victory
in race two. "I had been behind
him [Beaubier] before and not
once had I got past him by the
Saturday's race
was won by Hayes
(4) over Hayden
(95) by .025 of a
second.
Hayes (4) tried to make
a break for it in Friday's
race, but the other
three caught up.
