VOL. 51 ISSUE 10 MARCH 11, 2014 P31
THE NEW DIAVEL
D
ucati has unveiled its up-
graded Diavel for 2015, the
Italian brand's "cruiser" getting
an updated version of the 11-de-
gree Testastretta twin, cosmetic
changes and a new exhaust sys-
tem. It will come in two versions
– the standard model and the
Carbon version.
The engine upgrades come
from Ducati's Dual Spark design,
with the twin now getting dual
sparkplugs in each of its four-
valve heads. The powerplant
also gets revised intake and ex-
haust ports and cam timing and
the Diavel's compression ratio
jumps from 11.5:1 to 12.5:1.
And if the Diavel needed more
torque, it got it. The bike now
produces what Ducati claims to
be 96.3 foot-pounds of torque
– up 2.3 from its predecessor.
The bike produces the same
162 horsepower as the previ-
ous model, but gets to that peak
power sooner at 9250 (250 rpm
earlier).
The Diavel gets all the now
normal electronics – Ducati Trac-
tion Control, three ride modes
(Sport, Touring and Urban) – and
riders can customize it all and
have it display for them on the
TFT display.
The standard version will sell
for $17,995 with the Carbon ver-
sion retailing for $20,995. The
new bikes are expected to be
available in April.
