VOL. 51 ISSUE 10 MARCH 11, 2014 P21 Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe's Glenn Cold- enhoff sat on the tail of the top three for the first half of the race. Upon reaching midway, Colden- hoff was on his second wind as he scrubbed past Jordi Tixier and Dylan Ferrandis to take second. In race two, Coldenhoff was just as good, although the heat played a factor in his ability to push the entire race. Coldenhoff soldiered on to finish 2–4 for second overall, which moved him up to third in the championship standings. Anstie took the Fox Head Holeshot in race two and held Herlings at bay for part of the race, but was forced to settle for second. With a 6-2, Anstie took his first podium of the year in third. Tonglet Out For NHRA Opener LE Tonglet, the 2010 NHRA Pro Stock Cham- pion, will not be racing his Nitro Fish Apparel Suzuki at the upcoming Amalie Gatornationals, the tra- ditional season-opener. Tonglet, 24, was recently hired by the Metairie (Lou- isiana) Fire Department and his training schedule will prevent him from mak- ing the Gainesville race. "I hate to miss any races, but at this point in my life I have to start thinking about my career," said Tonglet, who was select- ed out of a pool of more than 1000 applicants to fill eight job vacancies. "I have been trying to become a fire fighter for more than a year and that dream is about to become a reality. I'm currently train- ing and until that training is completed and I am as- signed to a station, I won't know my schedule so I'm not sure just how many races I'll be able to make this season. At this point, I'd guess that we can still race in about six to eight races that are close to home. Working at the fire department does allow some for flexibility so in the future I could be in a position to compete for another championship. That would be the ideal situation." Eddie Reed will make his NHRA debut on the team's Suzuki in the opener on March 16. The Colors of Bridgestone Bridgestone has an- nounced that it will use a new color marking system for the tire walls of the four different slick compounds available for the 2014 MotoGP season. Previ- ously the series' spec-tire company only marked the softer tire option with a white stripe regardless of the compound. Now the new color scheme will be as follows: Green – extra- soft compound; white – soft compound; black - medium; red – hard. With the different tire allocation for the Factory and Open classes in MotoGP, the color-coding will help fans know what riders are run- ning what tire option over the race weekend. The older white-stripe system will still be in place for rain tires as there are only two options available. Smage For Sherco Sherco USA has an- nounced the signing of six-time National NATC/ AMA MotoTrial Pro Cham- pion Patrick Smage for the 2014 season. Smage will be competing in this year's eight-round Ai- reS NATC/AMA MotoTri- als championship on a HOPKINS RIDES AGAIN A fter not throwing his leg over a road racer for some 18 months due to a myriad of injuries and subsequent rehabilitation, John Hopkins put in four solid days of work at the pre-British Super- bike Series test at Cartagena in Spain last week. Hopkins and his Tyco Suzuki teammate Josh Waters posted "confidence-inspiring lap times" (no lap times were given) over the four days, ac- cording to the team. "I think the test was really positive," Hopkins said. "We definitely achieved what we aimed to John Hopkins had his first test of the off-season in preparation for his assault on the 2014 British Superbike Championship.
