IN THE WIND P30 SUPERBIKES SET FOR THREE-RACE SERIES T hree-time AMA Superbike Cham- pion Josh Hayes will highlight the list of road racers en- tered to take part in what is being called Pro Superbike and Pro Sportbike rac- ing in three non-AMA events scheduled for Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Califor- nia, Sonoma Race- way in Sonoma, California and Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah. The three races are scheduled for April 26-27 (Auto Club Speedway), May 3-4 (So- noma) and May 24-25 (Miller) – all during the 11-week break be- tween the opening two rounds of the AMA Superbike Cham- pionship at Daytona and Road America. The group putting the races together (led by team owner and magazine publisher John Ulrich) says it is currently working on a television package for the series. That's two things the five-round 2014 AMA Superbike Champion- ship has failed to deliver: racing on the west coast and a televi- sion package. Others who have entered the race, according to releases from the various event promoters, in- clude Yamaha's JD Beach, Cam- eron Beaubier and Garrett Gerl- off, GEICO Honda's Jake Zemke and the Yoshimura Suzuki team of Roger Lee Hayden, Martin Cardenas and Chris Clark. "From a racer's perspective, I'm excited that someone has put in the effort to give us racers the opportunity to spend more time racing our awesome Super- bikes," Hayes said in a press re- lease. "A big thank you for that. We've always had good crowds at Sonoma Raceway. It's one of the best tracks we go to in the country and one that's always brought me a lot of success." Ulrich said he was motivated by the lack of west coast races. "When I learned that there were no national-level profes- sional road races scheduled west of the Mississippi River for the 2014 season, I realized that I had to try to make something happen," said Ulrich. "This event is the first step, and is modeled after the successful formula used by British Superbike. I'd like to thank the AFM (which will sanction the Sonoma race) the club I started racing with in 1973, for working with me on this effort to rebuild our sport in the United States."
