KENDA AMA NATIONAL ENDURO SERIES STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY SHAN MOORE T o the dismay of the com- petition, Charlie Mullins picked up where he left off last year by taking a dominat- ing win at the opening round of the 2014 Kenda AMA National Enduro Series in Pelion, South Carolina. During last year's series, the FMF/KTM rider won eight of the 10 rounds to easily outdistance VOL. 51 ISSUE 9 MARCH 4, 2014 P79 Briefly... The NEPG introduced a new class for 2014, the Expert-AA class, which is sponsored by Rekluse. At the end of the year, there is a $1000 cash bonus payout from Rekluse, to the Expert-AA Class Champion if they use Rekluse clutch components and a Rekluse clutch cover. This year's Sandlapper Enduro set a series record with 721 riders signing up for the race. Most of the National rounds are restricted to 500 or 600 entries, however, due to high de- mand; the organizers allowed more riders for this year's event. Obermeyer Suzuki's Nick Davis rode the race on an RM-Z450, the first time Suzuki has had a factory- backed effort in the series in quite some time. Davis broke his clutch actuator on a tree early in the event but was still able to finish in 21 st place. Chris Bach, who is riding for JCR Honda this year, used the race as a warm up for the upcoming GNCC opener in Florida and finished a solid 10 th . Charlie Mullins lived up to his number-one plate.
