Two Kawasakis held Giugliano back in
race two, with Baz second after rough-
ing up his teammate Tom Sykes – ac-
cording to Sykes – in each race. Sykes
could have won race two, but then again
so could Baz. And so could Laverty had
his engine not popped harder than the
Prosecco did for the win in race one.
Baz had been fifth in race one with
Sykes seventh, while Pata Honda's Jon-
athan Rea had a steady start, posting
results of sixth and fifth.
His teammate Leon Haslam was
thrown from his bike after it went wrong
at the fast turn 12 in race one but even
on a quickly rebuilt CBR he was sixth in
race two – one spot ahead of Davies.
Melandri recovered from his race two
slip road slipup to finish eighth, ahead
of the Red Devils Aprilia of Toni Elias,
not quite fit for action after suffering a
motocross injury recently.
There were a lot of walking wounded
after the crash-fest of testing on the pre-
ceding Monday and Tuesday, and then
a few big offs in qualifying.
Davies was spit off his Ducati at the
top of Lukey Heights and did a fair im-
