under development to satisfy
what it hopes will be its custom-
ers' climb up the capacity ladder
as they become older and more
experienced. So as a future com-
petitor to the Honda CBR500R
family of twin-cylinder models,
Hero revealed its sharply styled
all-new 620cc Hastur middle-
weight project bike powered by a
liquid-cooled, eight-valve, paral-
lel-twin motor with a chain-driven
DOHC that's projected to deliver
80 hp at 9 600rpm, with peak
torque of 72Nm at 7750 rpm.
This is, once again, believed to
be developed by EBR in Wiscon-
sin, and though not specifically
confirmed as such, is clearly in-
tended to serve as the platform
for a future range of models ca-
pable of bearing either the EBR
or Hero names, depending on
the country they're sold in.
These will vary from a Naked
commuter, Adventure tourer,
Streetfighter etc. – just like the
Honda CB500F, CB500X and
CBR500R parallel-twins. Fitted
with 43mm upside down forks,
twin 300mm front discs gripped
by four-piston radial calipers and
a 220mm rear brake, the Hastur
is projected to weigh 352 pounds
in Streetfighter guise with a full
3.9-gallon fuel tank, and deliver
a top speed of 150 mph, with a
0-100 kph (62 mph) time of 3.8
seconds from a standing start.
The engine has a counter-ro-
tating crankshaft similar to that on
Jorge Lorenzo's MotoGP Yama-
ha YZR-MI and the MV Agusta F3
range of three-cylinder models,
aimed at enhancing handling,
and is reported to be a heavily
over-square short-stroke design
aimed at delivering revs.
It uses a fully stressed compo-
nent in the tubular steel with alu-
minum subframe. No word yet on
