er rider at the first round, I suf-
fered a fractured tibia clearly into
my ankle," Bowers explained.
"I'm fortunate to have great peo-
ple in my corner, and I had it all
screwed back together. After go-
ing through a couple weeks of re-
hab, I am finally on the good side
of this injury."
When asked if the injury was
causing him pain, he replied,

keep going."
Ames, the current points lead-
er, enjoyed his first win of the
season in Milwaukee, but it's his
consistency so far that has given
him the advantage.

just doing my job," Ames said. "I
want to take down Bowers, but
he's going to be tough, and he'll
put up a fight, and he's not done.
He's not even close to being
done, and it's going to be a long
season. I've known I've had it in
me for years and I'm just happy to
be up here with him battling for a
championship."
With the championship tour
now leaving the cold upper Mid-
west for the warmer climate of
the West, Ames says that his bat-
tle plan won't change.
"My goal is to come in here
and to get as many wins as I can
and to stay on the box," Ames
said. "If you are winning and up
front every weekend, the points
will come."
Arenacross newcomer Jacob
Hayes is currently third in the
series, a good 30 points behind
the leader, Ames. Not long ago,
