Stewart. "Anaheim [I] stings
right now, but hopefully we keep
knocking down points and get
back into it."
NOT WORRIED
Like last week at Anaheim III, Vil-
lopoto played it safe in San Diego.
He had his chance to challenge
Stewart but chose the conserva-
tive route on the tricky San Diego
track. Knowing that Ken Roczen,
the nearest rider to him in the
championship, was safely be-
hind him, Villopoto didn't want to
risk a good chance for second-
place points. Plus, Villopoto just
wasn't comfortable all day on
the San Diego track, which had
a shiny glaze to it in some sec-
tions. Fourth fastest in qualifying
and third in his heat race showed
that Villopoto wasn't completely
on his game, but his team even-
tually found a setup that was ac-
ceptable on the hard-packed and
slick track.
"We were fighting the bike all
day," Villopoto said. "I felt like
we should have been better in
practice, but we made a change
before the heat races and that's
what we stuck with for the main,
and it seemed like it was pretty
dialed in.
"James was able to get around
me early and it seemed like we
were running back and forth, a
couple of 10ths here and there
(Left) Ken Roczen (94) and Chad
Reed (22) again found themselves
battling.
(Below) Justin Hill (35) took
advantage of a good start and a fall
by his teammate Dean Wilson (15)
to claim his first 250 SX win.
