IN THE WIND P28 CANARD FOR DETROIT RETURN? T eam Muscle Milk Honda's Trey Canard is hop- ing for a return to racing at the Detroit round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series, the Oklahoman said on Friday. Canard broke his arm over the Thanksgiving weekend while practicing for this year's Supercross series. He underwent surgery some eight weeks ago in which the broken bone was plated. He had hoped to return much sooner than the March 15 De- troit round, but the injury is taking longer than ex- pected to heal. "It ended up being worse than I had originally made it out to be," Canard said on Friday. "It's been a long process, but these things take time. I've been through this before and I don't want to rush it, although it's hard to sit here watch everyone else out there racing." The former East Lites Supercross Champion is scheduled to get an evaluation on February 10 and if he gets the green light from his doctor then he'll start riding again with an eye on the Detroit return. "Once I get on the bike and see how it feels then I'll know more, but that's the plan for now," said Ca- nard. "I can't wait to get back on the bike and get back to doing what I really love." The oft-injured Canard had a successful 2013 season, highlighted by his sixth-place overall finish in the Supercross series and fourth overall in the AMA 450 Motocross Championship. Shan Moore Trey Canard is hoping to return to racing on March 15 in the Detroit round of the AMA Supercross Series. Dave Jordan Sr., 1939-2014 D ave Jordan Sr., the creator of Ka- wasaki's Team Green Amateur Mo- tocross Racing Program, passed away Wednesday, January 29 at his home near Jacksonville, Florida. He was 74. He passed quietly with his sons at his side. "Motocross was an adult sport and Dave was one of the first people to rec- ognize that with the right environment and machine, kids could be a bigger part of it," said veteran photographer and ex-motocross racer Tom Riles. "I credit Dave for helping to create a fun, family atmosphere at the races. He fos- tered the notion that Team Green was a family. They would have an area set up to host cookouts, have fishing contests and really make it enjoyable for the kids. Plus the Team Green mechanics would take care of the bikes. It really helped turn motocross into a youth sport." After more than 30 years, the idea that launched the Team Green remains active today. "If we learned one thing in those early years, it was never to put pressure on an amateur racer," Jordan once said. "Just pat them on the back and tell them to have a good time." Since 1981, Team Green has helped develop such riders as Ricky Carmi- chael, Jeremy McGrath, James Stewart and Ryan Villopoto.
