came on the final go-around, but
a lapped rider interfered with his
plans and Reed went on to take
the checkered flag just .918 of a
second ahead of Roczen.
"I felt good out there," the Red
Bull/KTM rider said. "I wanted to
make it happen on the last lap,
but we got a lapper in between
us and that really messed it up.
I'm really bummed because I
think I could've made it happen.
I wouldn't have done anything
stupid, but I kind of wanted to go
for it. Overall, though, I'm super
happy with my performance."
"The last lap was tough," Reed
said. "I just tried to grind away,
not make any mistakes in the
whoops, get the turns down…
then a lapper got in between us.
I got a little bit scared because
those lappers just came together
and they were still fighting, we
came up on them so fast that
I don't think [Jimmy] Albertson
knew I was there, so I was giving
the bike a bit of a rev and doing
all those good things to make him
aware that I was there."
THE BIG PICTURE
For defending champ Villopoto,
he was thinking more about the
big picture than a win on this
night. Like Reed, Villopoto is not
a fan of Anaheim's dry dirt that
offers little traction – it doesn't
bode well with his ultra-aggres-
sive riding style and hyperactive
right wrist. He is not known for his
throttle finesse. When, just past
the halfway point, he accepted
Jason Anderson (17)
and Malcolm Stewart
couldn't stay away
from each other.
