VOL. 51 ISSUE 3 JANUARY 21, 2014 P75 THR MOTORSPORTS PARKER 250 Tuffy Pearson leads the way in the early stages of the Parker 250. Briefly... After starting behind the Pro and Expert bike teams, multi-time Quad Pro champs Danny Prather and David Scott passed all but four to end up fifth overall, putting them on track for another class championship. Ironically, when Ricky Brabec found himself with a broken engine case and a dead bike, the sweep truck that picked him up also contained Nick Burson and the Purvines Racing Beta that had suffered a similar fate. Nick Burson and teammate Justin Morrow were fifth off the line and found themselves battling with Blais Racing Services KTM's Sammy Bangert and Skyler Howes. At one point, Burson passed Bangert despite having a flat rear tire, though he couldn't make the pass stick. Though disappointed at his Parker outcome, Nick Burson didn't dwell on it, leaving immediately after the race and heading back to Southern California for the opening round of the D-37 desert racing series. He won the hare & hound there on his D-37-specific Beta to somewhat make up for the Parker DNF. Matt Canepa and John Harbauer finished fourth Open Pro on their Developer Choice, Inc. KTM, though both Harbauer and the 350 XC-F displayed bad cases of road rash after crashing. Less than 24 hours before the start, the Blais Racing Services KTM duo of Brendan Crow and Ben Meza didn't even know if they were going to race, though they proceeded as if they were.
