IN THE WIND BLAZUSIAK BEST IN BRAZIL R ed Bull/KTM Factory Team's Taddy Blazusiak came away with the overall win in round three of the FIM SuperEnduro Championship in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, on January 18. The defending champ topped the Superpole then went on a 1-3-1 rampage to take his second overall win of the series and pad his points lead. Second overall went to Sherco's David Knight, while Husqvarna's Alfredo Gomez rounded out the top three. Great Britain's Jonny Walker, Blazusiak's team- mate, was fourth. "It felt awesome to win here in Brazil," said Blazusiak. "The track was tough and I had my fair share of crashes but thankfully it came good in the end." American riders Kyle Redmond, Kevin Rookstool and Ricky Dietrich all competed in Brazil. Redmond went 7-10-6, Rookstool 9-8-9, and Dietrich 10-11-13. All three riders were aboard KTMs. Redmond is sixth in the series, Rookstool 10th and Dietrich 16th. The homologation rules were heading for change in any case, but maybe something more drastic or dramatic will be in order after a press release from the FIM stated that more news would be published at the end of January. If Bimota shows up there will be nine permanent manufacturers represented in 2014 - Aprilia, BMW, Buell EBR, Bimota, Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, MV Agusta and Suzuki. 18.4 percent increase by runner-up Audi to 130,700 vehicles, and an 11.2 percent gain by Mercedes-Benz to 139,180 units. With full-year 2013 sales up 7.5 percent to 1.65 million cars, the BMW brand retained a shrinking lead over its archrivals. Full-year figures show that BMW outsold Audi by about 80,000 cars last year, compared with 85,000 in 2012, while the gap with Mercedes-Benz shrank from 220,000 in 2012 to 193,000 last year, indicating that Mercedes, which dropped to third in 2011, enjoys strong product momentum at the expense of BMW, according to industry experts. Audi and Mercedes have each pledged to surpass BMW in sales by the end of the decade, with VW-owned Audi aiming to expand its lineup to 60 models from its current 49 by 2020 – not including its motorcycle subsidiary, Ducati - while Mercedes is planning to launch over 30 new models during the same period.
