I, sneaking on the podium with
– again - the help of a few riders
ahead of him crashing, but even
he said that he wasn't "stoked"
by his performance that night. A
week later, things didn't get any
better for him. He barely made
a ripple in Phoenix, unable to
make any headway after a midpack start. Thus it might've been
easy to write him off coming into
A2. Again.
People were instead talking
about Phoenix winner Villopoto,
Stewart, Dungey, Roczen, Justin
Barcia and even Justin Brayton as
potential A2 winners. Not Reed,
though. But that night in Phoenix
must've lit a fire under him, as he
came out smoking at Anaheim II.
He was flirting with the fastest lap
times in qualifying, he looked fast
in his heat race, and he got off
to a good start in the 450 main
but was behind some serious
talent, like early leader Dungey,
Anaheim I winner Roczen, Stewart and current three-time champ
Villopoto. But after the halfway
point, still lurking behind the lead
group, Reed figured he had the
speed to win and went for it, especially after finding himself in
