Marc Coma cruised into Valparaiso, Chile, on Saturday afternoon, the Spaniard ending up
18th in the final stage of the 2014
Dakar Rally – more than enough
to earn his fourth overall title in
the race generally regarded as
the world's toughest rally. The
victory also marked KTM's 13th title in a year marked by increased
factory challenges to the Red
Bull-backed team.
To make it even better for
KTM, Coma's teammate Jordi
Viladoms was able to secure
second place on the rally's final
day.
Coma led the overall standings from stage five onward,
completing the 5500-mile trek
in 54 hours, 50 minutes and
53 seconds – almost two hours
ahead of Viladoms. The Spaniard
earned three stage wins, four
second-place finishes and three
thirds.
Coma dedicated his fourth victory to "my friend Kurt Caselli."
"Without the right people behind me it would have been impossible to win," Coma said. "We
have worked very well throughout the race and also before.
