Ayrton Badovini will ride an Alstare Bimota in this year's EVO class in the World Superbike Championship. PHOTOGRAPHY BY GOLD & GOOSE VOL. 51 ISSUE 2 JANUARY 14, 2014 BIMOTA/ALSTARE TO RACE EVO O ne spin-off of the newly formed partnership between the Bimota brand and Alstare, one of the most experienced teams in World Superbikes, is the formation of Team Bimota Alstare Racing – a new team that will compete in the EVO class of this year's World Superbike Championship on the Bimota BB3. The bike features a BMW engine with a chassis built and designed in Bimota's headquarters in Rimini, Italy. The team will feature two riders - Italian Ayrton Badovini and Brit Christian Iddon. Badovini rode for the Alstare team last year when it ran the Ducati factory team. "The early part of this year is going to be a bit difficult because of our late start, but having said that, I've got such a good team backing me, I know we can do a nice job," Badovini said. "Although the BB3 is a new bike, I know the engine characteristics very well, from my two years with it in 2011 and 2012. It is a nice engine – fast, but very usable at all speeds. I don't think we're going to need to do a lot of work on the engine, which leaves us to concentrate on the rest of the package." The team will likely have backing from ParkinGo. ZACH BELL DONE FOR SUPERCROSS G EICO Honda's Zach Bell will be forced to sit out the rest of the 2014 West 250 Supercross Series after breaking his collarbone while practicing at the Phoenix Supercross on January 11. Bell underwent surgery the following day to repair the collarbone that was fractured in three places. He's expected to be off the bike for at least four to six weeks and will hope to return to action for the opening round of the 2014 outdoor motocross series.
