VOL. 51 ISSUE 2 JANUARY 14, 2014 Briefly... Eli Tomac came into the 2014 Supercross season hoping to get off to a fast start with his new 450-class career but a shoulder injury at Anaheim I prevented that from happening. In Phoenix, Tomac rode practice but called it off after just one lap. He knew right away the shoulder wasn't up to racing yet. "I tried one lap and that's all I could do," said Tomac. "I had to try because I wanted to get points if I could, but my shoulder wasn't ready. There's nothing [seriously] wrong with it, I've had an MRI and it was good. It's just a stretched tendon and bruised muscle and they said give it a week, but I'm going to give it a couple. So I'd say the earliest I'm going to be back is Oakland." Zach Bell was another casualty in Phoenix. The 250-class GEICO Honda rider suffered a broken collarbone during practice. "Zach crashed through a rhythm lane, he came up short on a triple and went down and he ended up breaking his collarbone," said GEICO Honda team manager Mike LaRocco Saturday afternoon. "He's at the hospital now and I think they have surgery scheduled for Sunday. They are saying he actually broke it in three places, so until that's done we can't determine when he'll be back." L LOPOTO K TO WAYS HOENIX OSS P37 Ryan Villopoto captured his first ever win in Phoenix. James Stewart clipped a jump in practice, which resulted in a nasty endo. The former champ was okay, but the bike's transmission reportedly wouldn't go into neutral, so the engine had to be replaced. Plus, the bike was so mangled from the crash that everything on the chassis had to be replaced except for the frame. continued on next page
