ROUND 1/JANUARY 4, 2014 ANGEL STADIUM OF ANAHEIM/ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA SUPERCROSS P54 MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES Justin Barcia was the top qualifier and passed Stewart to win his heat race. JASON ANDERSON: BACK ON TOP Jason Anderson proved with his last-lap pass on TLD/Lucas Oil Honda's Cole Seely that he's not willing to take a back seat to anyone in this year's race for the 2014 West title. The Rockstar Energy Racing Team rider made a bold, if not forceful, pass on Seely that stopped the Honda rider in his tracks and allowed Anderson to take the lead just a straightaway and a turn before the checkered flag. "It feels good to get the first race of the season under my belt and to pick up that red plate; it feels awesome," said Anderson. "I knew I would be good this year, because I've done a lot of work during the off-season." For 2014, the Rockstar Energy Racing team made the move from Suzuki to KTM, and Anderson seems to have adapted quite nicely. "The KTM is good, I'm pumped to be riding it," said Anderson. "It took me about a week to get used to it, and I just feel at home with it." Anderson also gives a lot of credit to his new trainer, Jeff Ward. "I've got Jeff Ward in my corner right now, and he's been a big help; I know my fitness is good right now," Anderson said. "I'm just trying to put everything together and make a run at the championship this year." After battling with Seely all race, the outcome came down to a pass in the penultimate corner, where Anderson came in pretty hard on Seely. "It was kind of go-for-it, but it was for the win," said Anderson. "The track was actually kind of tough. It's pretty simple [in design] and it's actually kind of tough to lead, and that's kind of what I struggled with the first three laps. I knew in that last corner I could pull it off, so I just went into it and came out with the lead." Shan Moore
