be really happy if I take the stage. It will be the first
one for me on the Dakar. It's great. The bike was
awesome. Without all the work that goes on behind the scenes this is nothing, as you know, so
I'm really grateful for the opportunity from Honda
and all my sponsors. Hopefully, I can carry on in
this direction and have a good overall finish."
Third in stage two went to stage-one winner
Joan Barreda, the factory Honda rider ending up
two minutes behind his teammate Sunderland,
but over two minutes ahead of Red Bull KTM's
Ruben Faria.
The two men who went into the event as the
favorites for victory ended up ninth and 10th in
stage two with Red Bull KTM's Marc Coma some
45 seconds ahead of his rival, defending race
champion Cyril Despres on the factory Yamaha.
