mistake was to underestimate his
young attacker. He took a classic
sweeping line. And as he aimed
the Yamaha at the final apex…
Marquez arrived.
Up the inside, and probably
going too fast for the corner. Hitting the Yamaha served to slow
him enough to bounce him back
on course. He took second; Lorenzo managed to stay on board,
crossed the line shaking his
head. In parc ferme and on the
rostrum he refused to acknowledge Marquez's presence, and
the no-speaks continued at tests
the following day. Only when they
found themselves sitting side
by side on the airplane back to
Barcelona did they finally shake
hands. Thereafter and for the rest
of the year Lorenzo turned his an-
ger on Race Direction, for failing
to punish what they saw as a racing incident, but he saw as dangerous riding. Back in his 250cc
days he'd been suspended for a
race for his own ruthless tactics.
"After that I learned, it is not
the right way to race," he said.
"We have a new system of [license] penalty points. Why don't
they use it?"
