CN III VOICES LETTERS TO THE EDITOR P36 "It's rare to find anything "custom" at any dealer these days." Tracker Fan Kudos to South Bay Triumph ("Mucho Mojo," Issue 49, December 10) for being a shop that still instills passion back into the dealership atmosphere. It's rare to find anything "custom" at any dealer these days. Andy Moore Via the Internet Tracker Fan II The Triumph Bonneville Street Tracker is a terrific project result. He deserves it... hopefully the exposure will lead him to a Moto2 spot. Nick Chechakos Via Facebook Rispoli To England II Will the last one out of the U.S., please turn the lights off. Dale Schmidtchen Via Facebook The Fix? I am a long-time lover of motorcycle racing. Sadly after being in the industry for a long time, I had to move away from it because it was impossible to make money. But man was it fun making money doing what I loved for 42 years. I am not a financial genius, but I have noticed what most businesses have had to do since the financial crisis of 2008. As an example: General Motors has consolidated by reducing the number of franchises they offer. Hummer is gone, Oldsmobile is gone, Pontiac is gone, Saab is gone, Saturn is gone. GM reduced its overhead by eliminating duplication. GM is back to making money, because GM consolidated and reduced its overhead. And the same can be said for Ford. So here are my ideas to help road racing make more money and be competitive. 1. Consolidate MotoGP and World Superbike into the same series to reduce expenses and make more money for everyone concerned; 2. Have just one race series that has three, four or five classes and have just one World Championship with 15 to 20 races a year with twice the number of talented and fast racers on the track at the same time; 3. You would have to have just one big, more attractive TV contract; 4. You can combine all of your MotoGP and World Superbike sponsors into one series, cut expenses in half, etc. And I humbly submit my idea for classes in the new combined World Championship Series: MotoGP: Use Existing Rules for 1000cc, maybe include unlimited 500cc two- strokes? World Superbike: 750cc four cylinders, 1000cc three cylinders; 1200cc two cylinders, maybe include limited 500cc two-strokes? Moto2: 650cc four cylinders, 750cc three cylinders, 1000cc two cylinders, maybe 250cc two strokes. Moto3 or World Superbike 2: 350cc single cylinders, 250 twin cylinders maybe 125cc two strokes. Use Supersport or Superstock rules to cut cost. Bob Brownell Via the Internet Letters to the editor can be sent to voices@cyclenews.com.
