We caught up with Sykes the
day after he won his title. And he
was already testing in preparation
for the 2014 title chase. No hangover for the non-drinking Sykes...
History tells us that when a
rider narrowly misses out on
a title it almost crushes them,
but that experience of missing by only half-a-point in 2012
didn't seem to crush you?
The way I looked at it was probably different to what everyone
else has done then.

We came so close last year
and if we had not done it this
year it would have been, "Oh,
Blimey…" That would have been
another challenge, to come back
again stronger. We would have
made it happen, but I think that is
why we saw a lot of punching of
the air and a lot of laughs when I
