event, how all three teammates
raced at the same time for one
overall score. I thought that was
a really good idea."
As if the mass of racing wasn't
enough for Thanksgiving weekend, many racers witnessed
cameras and even a helicopter
capturing the race, as a new film
development is under way for On
Any Sunday III.
Son of On Any Sunday director Bruce Brown, Dana Brown,
director of films such as Dust to
Glory and Step Into Liquid, has a
vision for a new motorsports film
and took advantage of the beauti-
ful weekend.
"People mention stuff like this
all the time - you should do this,
you should do that - and I'm always a little reluctant. When I did
Step Into Liquid, everyone was
saying to call it Endless Summer
III and I said, 'no, let's give it its
own name,' like with Dust to Glory. Red Bull Media House, which
is a new division to Red Bull,
actually wants to make feature
films on extreme sports. So they
called and asked about doing another On Any Sunday, and I said,
'come on, man,' - it's a classic
and one of my favorite movies.
They told me how much money
they'd throw at it and I'd have cre-
ative control, and I went to talk to
dad [Bruce Brown] and he said it
was about time to have another
one, and here we are.
"We've filmed motocross and
GP and just a ton of events,"
Brown continued. "The in-sequence of On Any Sunday had
Malcolm Smith and Steve McQueen riding around - we didn't
want to do that exactly because
we want to make it a new film, so
the thought is, when we edit it,
this [event] will kind of be the end
of the scene."
Brown said the film is expected to be released next fall. Just in
time to get everyone fired up for
next year's A Day In The Dirt. CN
