likeable character, humble, who was so enthusiastic," said Dakar Rally director Etienne Lavigne.
"After earning a superb reputation on the tracks
of the American off-road races, he admitted being
conquered by cross-country rallies."
Naturally, the news hit the Baja racing fraternity
like a ton of bricks.
"With the uttermost respect, JCR/Honda extends our condolences to the Caselli family and
KTM," Johnny Campbell Racing posted on its
website after winning the Baja 1000. "We are very
heart broken over the loss of our friend and great
competitor Kurt Caselli. Kurt was and always will
be a "True Champion" defined by his character on
the bike and off the bike. Kurt's presence at the
races was always welcoming and friendly. He will
forever be an icon and a hero to us all. We had
many great races together and those experiences
we will always cherish. He was smart, hard working, fearless, graceful, talented and enjoyable and
the lessons he taught us all will never be forgotten."

The plate and screws

French Grand Prix when
Pedrosa originally suffered

for two weeks before starting rehabilitation.
