VOL. 50 ISSUE 45 NOVEMBER 12, 2013 P81 NERGY the Vet+ 35 main, with Colby Begin picking himself off the deck several times to beat Stephen Foord and David Stirm. Harrison Oswald won Open Amateur with Canada's Wyatt Hart and Tucker Larrieu joining him on the podium. In the TrialCross main, 14-year324 GARY SUTHERLIN old Ty Cullins took the win over Shad Petersen with Kyle Larsen third. CN OVERALL 1. Taddy Blazusiak (KTM) 2. Cody Webb (Beta) 3. Colton Haaker (Hon) 4. Mike Brown (KTM) 10TH PLACE "The track was good," NTS Inc./Zip-Ty Racing/Fly Racing KTM-mounted Gary Sutherlin said after a hard crash in practice. "They did a great job with having a lot of diverse obstacles. They had a good rock pile. The log corner - not my favorite. I think it was kind of stupid in the fact that it just wasn't very race-able. It was tough. I struggled a little bit in the main. I had a great heat race - rode really good and was looking forward to the main, but I messed up my Hot Lap in the log corner. It was just kind of downhill from there. Second-row start, worked my way up, had some people fall on me and stuff. Nobody to blame but myself - I put myself in a bad position right off the bat." 8 DESTRY ABBOTT DNQ A loaded Last Chance Qualifier ended up leaving Monster Energy Kawasaki's Destry Abbott out of the main. It was by no means easy, he said, "Not when you have Mike Brown, 5. Justin Soule (Kaw) 6. Taylor Robert (Kaw) 7. Kyle Redmond (KTM) 8. Geoff Aaron (KTM) 9. Kevin Rookstool (KTM) 10. Gary Sutherlin (KTM) [Cory] Graffunder, [Kevin] Rookstool, [Bryan] Roper - we were all like, 'I can't believe this is our LCQ!' I actually felt good all day in practice. I had the 11th-fastest time and felt decent. But that log corner just killed me all night. I struggled and it's frustrating. That's EnduroCross racing, though." 3 CHANTELLE BYKERK 1ST WOMEN FMF/RPM Racing KTM's Chantelle Bykerk needed only a couple points to lock up the Women's-class Championship, so earlier in the day, she claimed she'd ride conservatively and do just enough to ensure that. When she fell in the first turn, though, those plans apparently went out the window. "I made a couple mistakes and I was just trying not to panic," she laughed. "I was definitely racing, but I was trying to be smart and think about what was coming up next and who's going to be in my way and to think about other ways to get around."
