ver the past 18 years, the
Oklahoma Gold Rush
Grand Prix has grown
from a small local event to a major "must-ride" for competitors in
the south-central part of the United States.
The special one-off event was
the brainchild of newly inducted
AMA Hall of Famer Norm McDonald and his son, Pat. The McDonalds wanted to introduce a race
that was unique in format and
they also wanted to have it at a location with lots of amenities. Hallett Motor Speedway in the northeastern part of Oklahoma filled
the bill as far as the location, and
the format the McDonalds came
up with offered a variety of racing types, including supermoto,
motocross and cross-country,
all rolled into a three-day format.
The cross-country race is especially unique in that it combines
a nine-mile off-road course with
one-and-a-half miles of asphalt.
The asphalt section, which is part
of the Hallett road-race course,
includes 80 feet of elevation
