PREVAILS TRAVIS PRESTON STARS AT GLEN HELEN P77 STORY BY CARLY RAUBA PHOTOGRAPHY BY NATE AND CARLY RAUBA W hen the dust settled at Glen Helen Raceway from all the action that took place over the two-day running of the 21st annual MTA World Vet Championships on a typical sunny and warm Southern Californian autumn weekend, Travis Preston and Doug Dubach stood out among the hundreds of geriatric racers with wins in the featured 30 and 40 Pro classes. The "World" part of the popular long-running event really shined through the haze this year, as riders from all over the globe came to compete from as far away as Guam, Malaysia, Iceland, Slovenia and many points in between. And the veteran aspect has become apparent in recent years as well, as the 40+ and older classes continue to swell with aging talent whose riding says otherwise. The premier class of the weekend starred Americans Travis Preston, Michael Sleeter and Slovenian Roman Jelen as they raced their way through the 30+ Pro class. Preston made his way to the front on the first lap of moto one and gained a huge lead over the rest of the competition as the race settled in. With a massive gap between him and second-place Sleeter, his only concern (at first) was to just finish the race without crashing. But in moto two, Sleeter found a groove
