KTM rider Chris Bach claimed
third in the championship despite
having one of his worst finishes
all year. His chain broke on the
trail and had to hustle back to
his pits on foot (and a bicycle) to
get a new chain. He still finished
10th overall and with room to
spare in the championship over
fourth-place series finisher Josh
Strang, on the Rocky Mountain
MC Kawasaki.
Strang was a front-runner in
The Ironman race for a while. He
and Thad DuVall were battling for
third overall at one point, but both
riders would suffer crashes and
eventually pull out of the race.
DuVall finished out the 2013
championship in sixth, eight
points behind Strang.
KTM rider Rory Mead and AmPro Yamaha's Jordan Ashburn
rounded out the top five (behind
Russell, Mullins and Whibley) in
the day's race.
The race for the overall GNCC
title wasn't the only championship on the line at The Ironman,

rider who had any kind of a shot
at taking away the 2013 title from
Baylor, couldn't take advantage
of Baylor's mistake. Thomas
could only muster a fourth-inclass finish to Baylor's sixth.
Baylor ended up taking the title
with room to spare over the former champ, Thomas. At just 16
years of age, Baylor is the youngest rider ever to win the XC2
GNCC Championship.
