eta's Cody Webb nabbed
his first ever GEICO EnduroCross main event win
just two weeks ago in Denver,
and he quickly backed it up with
another victory in Everett, Washington. The 2010 US Trials Champion served notice that he is now
a full-fledged EnduroCross racer
by outdueling KTM's Mike Brown
to take the win.
Brown held onto second place
to open up his points lead over
Taddy Blazusiak, who salvaged
a fourth-place finish after several
crashes throughout the day.
Webb started the main event
in third position and battled back
and forth with Taylor Robert for
the first four laps before finally
taking second position for good.
At that point, Brown, who had
made a quick pass on Robert
on the first lap, had opened up
a nine-second lead by setting
some of the fastest laps of the
day, so it appeared that he was
well on his way to his third win of
the season. But at the halfway
point, Brown began to slow with
arm pump and that allowed Webb
to cut the gap in half by lap 10 of
12. And then Brown got stuck in
a technical rock turn, which allowed Webb to close right onto
his back wheel.
"I could not hold on after the
halfway point," Brown said. "The
ruts and slippery track were difficult, but I should have continued
to pull away."
