Opening ceremonies at the Monster Energy Cup also featured easily the coolest rendition of the national anthem in years – at least in the USA. (We say that because Slash, of Guns 'n' Roses fame, played "Oh Canada" in Toronto a couple of years ago.) At the ME Cup, contemporary Christian musician Lincoln Brewster played a blistering, spine-tingling rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner on his Fender Stratocaster for the sold-out crowd inside Sam Boyd Stadium. Some fans may have noticed that, as of the Motocross of Nations, Red Bull KTM's Ryan Dungey stopped wearing the Nike motocross boots that he had been wearing for the previous few years. Instead, Dungey was wearing Fox boots to match his helmet and the rest of his gear. "Yeah, that deal ended after Elsinore," Dungey said. "They just didn't see the value in continuing to pursue the MX program there, from what I was told." However, Yoshimura Suzuki's James Stewart was still sporting the Nike boots at the Monster Energy Cup, along with a Nike swoosh on his jersey, so apparently his Nike deal is still going. at $1 million, which is why the Monster Energy Cup has never incorporated Supercross-style whoops into the track design.
