He could have won the championship in France if Laverty and
Guintoli scored low marks after
their falls, but race two finished
Sykes, Laverty, Guintoli. Race one
was Sykes, Guintoli, and Laverty.
"The season is Tom's to lose,"
said Laverty of his chances now.
"A series of things have held us
back. Nürburgring was the most
recent one, but it is a championship for a reason and you have
to put it all together. I have had
seven successive podiums with-
out any real mishaps. Too little
too late, unfortunately."
It was about those three riders
– Sykes, Laverty and Guintoli this weekend as nobody else got
close.
Chaz Davies fell in race one
and finished fifth in race two 25 seconds adrift. Marco Melandri lost any slim chance of the
championship he had with a fifth
and a seventh, and he is now 34
points behind Guintoli, meaning
the French rider should be safe
in third.
He wasn't safe in race two as
he and Laverty laid passes into
each other at every opportunity, giving an impressively large
crowd in cold and often damp
conditions something to cheer
them up. If Laverty and Guintoli
are going down under the Kawasaki and Sykes chariot of hardearned points, they are going
down scrapping.
Kawasaki may have had the upper hand in France, but the Aprilias were very much next best.
