to the title. Salvini is considered
the "fastest enduro rider in the
world."
However, things didn't go as
expected for the HM Honda rider
in Sardinia. Right off the bat, on
day one, he hit a tree and got a
large thorn stuck in his forearm,
making it difficult for him to pull
his clutch lever, yet he still finished second to Australia's Daniel Milner. Salvini had to have surgery on Monday night to remove
it. Then on day two things would
get worse. Starting from the front
row, Salvini had a footpeg break
off during a transfer section and
had to ride one of the longest
special tests with just one footpeg. His chain also derailed and
he eventually finished 65th for
the day, leaving him with a poor
starting position for day three's
round.
"This was not the best week
for me, I had many problems at
the start," said Salvini. "It was a
huge motivation for me to come

"I don't know what happened,
and I was keeping up with my
spokes all week, but all of a sudden I lost about 10 spokes, and
the rear wheel was wobbling,"
said Mullins. "I had to take it off

COMING APART
Charlie Mullins had a rough day barely made a check. I was on
time, but it was just the stress of
on day five. The factory KTM riddealing with it made for a tough
er's wheel started coming apart
day.
"I really didn't get to focus
so much on my riding, I was so
worried about the wheel. At the
end of the day, I was able to get
all the spokes in and get it fairly
straight."
Despite the problem, Mullins
still placed 10th overall in the individual standings, and helped
boost the U.S. World Trophy
Team to second place in the
team standings.
