Two new MotoGP riders got
their chance at Aragon, substituting for vacancies left
by Karel Abraham and Ben
Spies, both of whom have
now confirmed that shoulder injuries will keep them
out for the rest of the year. In
fact Australian Damian Cudlin has had a substitute ride
before in the premier class,
at Motegi in 2011, when he
rode the Pramac Ducati in
place of Loris Capirossi,
qualifying 17th but crashing
out of the race. The Sydneysider, now 30, was down to
ride again a week later in
Australia, but crashed out in
practice. At Aragon he took
over the Paul Bird Motorsport ART machine usually
ridden by Colombian Yonny
Hernandez, who had taken
over Spies's vacant Pramac
Ducati. The second new
boy is a genuine GP novice – Luca Scassa, a former World Superbike rider
and currently a Supersport
front-runner, who rode the
AB Cardion ART in place of
Abraham.
