2004 – V IS FOR VERMEULEN
>>The last World Superbike race was held at Mazda Raceway
Laguna Seca on July 11, 2004 and both races were won by
Ten Kate Honda's Chris Vermeulen, the Aussie beating PierFrancesco Chili in race one and James Toseland in race two.
>>The series was using Pirelli spec tires and for the first time
in 10 years of racing Laguna there were no American wild card
riders in the race.
>>It was the first doubleheader World Superbike sweep for
Vermeulen.
>>The best lap of the weekend for the Dunlop-using AMA
Superbike riders was a 1:24.906 (Ben Bostrom); the best
for the spec-tire Pirelli-mounted World Superbikes was a
1:26.782 (Pier-Francesco Chili).
