VOL. 50 ISSUE 38 SEPTEMBER 24, 2013 PHOTOGRAPHY BY GOLD & GOOSE Young get the Crescent ride. "I'm absolutely pumped and blown away," Young said in a phone call from his Wisconsin home this morning. "First off I just want to say that I hope that Leon [Camier] is feeling better and I wish him a speedy recovery. I also have to say thank you to the Crescent Suzuki team for giving me the opportunity and considering me to ride their bike at Laguna. It's pretty exciting and I can't wait." It's no secret that Young and the Attack Racing team suffered at the three MotoGPs this season, but the World Superbike opportunity is one that Young should shine in. After all, he's back on a Suzuki GSXR1000 and on a racetrack he knows well. The only unknown is the Pirelli spec-tires. "That was my first thought when I heard about the opportunity," Young said of being back on a GSX-R. "This year has been pretty tough for me just trying to find and search and find my way again on the CRT bike. There will be a few new things with the World Superbike that I will have to learn and adapt quickly to, but for the most part it will be a familiar home that I will find myself settling into. I'm really excited. I've always had pretty good success with the GSX-R1000 and Suzuki. I can't wait." Camier broke seven bones in his foot – three of which had to be pinned – in a crash in Friday morning practice at the Istanbul Park Circuit in Turkey. Young will join Frenchman Jules Cluzel on the team. The news of Young, Hayden and Eslick riding at Laguna bolsters a thinning grid for the round as the series lost Camier, Max Neukirchner and Carlos Checa to injury in Turkey. At the round before, the series lost Pata Honda's Jonathan Rea to a broken femur and Kawasaki's Loris Baz to a neck injury. Baz will be replaced at Laguna Seca by David Salom, who last raced a World Superbike for the Pedercini team in 2012. Blake Young (79) will be back in action this coming weekend in the World Superbike races at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Young is filling in for the injured Leon Camier. Paul Carruthers P21 Briefly... Scassa In For Abraham Italian road racer Luca Scassa will take over for the injured Karel Abraham on the Cardion AB Motoracing at this weekend's Grand Prix of Aragon in Spain. Scassa has been racing in the World Supersport Series for the Kawasaki Intermoto Ponyexpress team. Dealer Expo To Chicago The Advanstar Powersports Group has announced that its Dealernews International Powersports Dealer Expo will be held December 5-7, 2014, at the McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois, moving from its longtime home in Indianapolis. Penton Movie Gaining Momentum The feature documentary "PENTON: The John Penton Story" is currently in post-production and has a new theatrical distribution partnership with Gathr Films in Los Angeles. Pay Per View Mile The Santa Rosa Mile, scheduled for September 28, will be streamed live with an access fee of $4.99 direct from SantaRosaMile.com on race day. The streaming can also be purchased in advance at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/ama-pro-flat-track. Halbert Set For Bayliss Race AMA Grand National Championship flat tracker Sammy Halbert will venture to Australia this winter to take part in the Troy Bayliss Classic. "Being invited to race the Troy Bayliss Classic is a huge honor," Habert said. "Racing 'Aussiestyle' dirt track will put my versatility to the test, but I'm looking forward to giving it a go. It'll be my first time visiting Australia, which makes it even more exciting."
