Laverty delivered two sucker punches to Superpole winner Tom Sykes as he followed behind the English rider until Sykes had to slow, then he set off and was never challenged again not by Sykes or by the race one second-place man, Marco Melandri. Laverty put it all together seamlessly against a backdrop of uncertainty about his future with Aprilia in World Superbike. And then after race two, he discovered that his option for 2014 was renewed. He therefore left the track stoked that he is still in with a decent chance of the championship in 2013, yet also punctured by the news that Marco Melandri is set to take any Aprilia factory ride alongside Sylvain Guintoli, who has a contract with the team
