ump starts, red flags, penalties and forceful last-lap
passes made this year's
AMA Superbike races at New
Jersey Motorsports Park one
chaotic mash-up. Josh Herrin
won Saturday's race after his Yamaha teammate and rival Josh
Hayes was penalized for jumping the start. In the heat of the
battle, Herrin proceeded to make
a forceful and dramatic last-turn
pass on the other contender, Yoshimura Suzuki's Martin Cardenas, to score victory and put himself solidly in control of the series.
Sunday's race was all Hayes. He
won by a massive margin, but the
damage was done to his hopes
of defending his title.
Herrin heads to the series finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna
Seca needing only a 10th-place
finish or better to win this year's
championship.
This season has been a coming of age of sorts for Herrin.
He's still not on par with Hayes
overall in a head-to-head matchup, but he's improved enough to
