P32 WIND PHOTOGRAPHY BY HARLEN FOLEY IN THE BELL SEWS IT UP A crash, sore thumb nor a bee sting could keep Kawasaki rider Robby Bell from clinching the 2013 World Off-Road Championship with one round still left in the series. A second-place finish at Honey Lake MX in Milford, California, September 15, was enough for Bell to seal the deal, despite a crash that injured his thumb while leading and having to deal with a reaction to a bee sting suffered later in the race. He had just enough energy left over to hoist the number-one plate at the end of the day. The Honey Lake victory, however, went to first-time WORCS winner Gary Sutherlin who stepped it up a notch on the technical track. He ended up taking the checkered flag approximately three minutes ahead of Bell. Finishing third was Bobby Garrison who made it an allKawasaki podium. KTM rider Justin Jones and Yamaha-mounted Ross Neely rounded out the top five in the Pro ranks. KTM pilot Ty Tremaine topped the Pro 2 class over Eric Yorba (KTM) and Starr Savage (KTM), while Kawasaki rider Steve Gibson came out on top of the Pro 2 Lites division. MOSS DOUBLES UP M att Moss, on the Motul/ Pirelli Suzuki, won the opening two rounds of the Terex Australian Supercross Championship at Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin, N.T., Australia, September 14-15. Under a blazing hot Australian sun, brothers Matt and Jake Moss went at it for the win on the opening day of racing, with Matt pulling away at the end to take the checkered flag four seconds ahead of Jake, Robby Bell cinched his first ever WORCS title at Honey Lake. aboard the Campbell Mining Racing Suzuki. Another four seconds back finished Jay Marmont of the Monster Kawasaki Racing Team. Josh Hill, on the Hart and Huntington/Insure My Ride Suzuki finished fourth, while fellow American Weston Peick ended up seventh on the Carlton Dry Honda. On the second day of racing for round two, Matt Moss again took the win but had to pass early leader Peick before pulling away to a comfortable fivesecond margin at the finish. Jake Moss finished third about four seconds back, while KTM's Kirk Gibbs and Daniel McCoy rounded out the top five. Marmont finished sixth, while Hill finished eighth. Gavin Faith (Carlton Dry Honda) and Luke Styke (Serco Yamaha) split wins in the Pro Lites division.
