INTERVIEW P54 2013 250CC AMA NATIONAL MOTOCROSS CHAMPION ELI TOMAC much, so we'll be fine. Q: If guys do mess with you there, though, like DeCoster was saying they might, you're pretty good at taking dudes out when you have to. Well, the only time I take guys out is if they come after me, really; like they're jacknuts out on the track. So, if they come after me, I'll come right back at them. That's all there is to it. Unless it could cost the team the overall win or something, then I won't be a complete idiot. Like Roger said, you don't want to take the pride for yourself, you've got to take the pride for the team. So, it depends on the situation. Q: You're returning to GEICO Honda to race 450s next year, sort of replacing Kevin Windham. K-Dub had his own gear deal, so are you going to be able to get your own, too? Yeah, I'll be free to get what I want. Q: What are your other sponsors going to be? I can't tell you. But it is free for me to do my own thing. Q: You've got about three weeks before you leave for Germany. What are your plans in the meantime? I have to keep riding at home. The break does kind of suck. It's just long enough to where you don't really get a ton of time off, especially if I do Monster Cup, too. Q: Do you have to go start testing on the 450 for Monster Cup before you head to Germany? NUMBER ONE BACK " WE'LL GET THEWE DO HAVE THE BECAUSE I THINK STRONGEST THREE GUYS, AS A TEAM. " I will. I mean, yeah, we'll probably do some testing but I will take some time off, too. I'll go back home to Colorado and do some elk hunting. Q: Elk hunting? Yeah, with a bow; getting up at 3 o'clock, getting up there at sunrise. It's an all-day thing. Q: Is that relaxing? It's not relaxing, it's just another adrenaline rush. It's crazy. Q: So, how do you find elk? Well, you call them in. Other than that, you can spot and stalk or track them. They're like 800-pound animals. Q: And the bulls? Yeah, the bulls are huge. It's gnarly. Q: You can take down an 800-pound animal with a bow and arrow? Yeah! Usually, you're like 30 yards away and closer. Q: So, what do you do with it? Do you eat it? Yeah, yeah. Pack 'em out and eat 'em. We make jerky, steak... Q: Do you pack it out on horses? On our backs. We quarter 'em out. It's gnarly. Q: How many trips does that take? Two or three trips with three guys, so it's like 100 pounds on your back. Q: That sounds like more training. It is! That's my off-season. Q: That's when you get to "chill out." Yup! [Laughs] I go Rambo. No Hawaii for me this year... CN
