INTERVIEW
P50
2013 250CC AMA NATIONAL MOTOCROSS CHAMPION ELI TOMAC
Q: What would you say is
the biggest difference between you this year versus
you the last couple years outdoors?
The biggest thing for me, I
think, is putting everything together, which is fitness, bike
setup, all of that. Man, it's just
a little bit of everything. Even
just staying at home in Colorado
this year was really big. Being at
home was nice. I was home last
year, too. This year, for the first
time, I actually did get a practice mechanic, Ricky Gilmore.
That made it easier on my dad,
made it easier on me. So, everything just kind of gelled together.
I think it's all just coming together
now, along with just getting older,
a little bit tougher, a little bit wiser,
more experienced.
Q: As for being older and
tougher, those go together
sometimes because you have
to learn to push through pain
at the 20-minute mark.
Yep, yep, exactly, just like that.
I think there is a big difference
between being 17 and 20 in being
able to push through stuff.
Eli Tomac says that getting older
and stronger helped put him over
the top in the outdoor series.
Q: It's manhood, really.
Yeah, I'm starting to grow a
little bit of a beard. When I look at
AC [Adam Cianciarulo] right now
and he still has peach fuzz on his
face, I'm like, "Man, I was that
dude three years ago. That's why
I was bonking at 20 minutes."
Q: What about earlier this
year when you kept getting
really frustrated because you
couldn't put two motos together? What did it take to get over
