This opened the door for Rory Mead, who took his turn at giving chase to the leaders. But he wasn't alone, as Jordan Ashburn and Josh Strang followed along not too far behind. At one point, it looked as though Mead would challenge the leaders and battle for posi- tion, but, late in the race, a hardcharging Josh Strang overtook Mead. Strang tried to carry that momentum up to the two KTMs and eventually put his Rocky Mountain ATV/MC Kawasaki into a position to challenge for the lead.
