P22 WIND Last month Wiles won the Peoria TT for a record ninth straight time, breaking the old mark of eight consecutive wins by Chris Carr. Wiles also earned podium finishes this season at Stockton and Colonial Downs. "A couple of weeks ago I finished second [the Lloyd Brothers Ducati] on a bike I only raced three times this year," Wiles said in his defense. "At Springfield the Ducati worked good enough to be in the draft, but as the day wore on the track got slicker and drier and the bike started spinning more. In the second race I ran the Harley and it was easy to stay with people and I felt comfortable in the draft. That may have been the first time for me at Springfield to stay in the lead draft. I got behind JD [Beach] and then I made one little mistake and couldn't make up the gap, but that bike [the Harley] was by far the best bike I ever rode at Springfield." Wiles said he understands the team wants to continue to develop the Ducati and he said he agrees with them. "That's where they're going to ultimately get support if they can be successful with it," Wiles explained. "And there are tracks where the bike can work, but the Harley is just more sorted out and I was trying to battle for a championship. I'm not going to say anything bad about the team. The whole team works hard and wants to win. I know everyone was frustrated at times. I was frustrated too because I want to win, or at least have a chance to win." Wiles went on to say he hoped to find a bike to ride in the final two rounds before adding that it would be tough to find a competitive team to ride with this late in the game. Benner set fast time in his first Xtreme Class run with a 11.732, then waited out the second half to see if he'd be bested.
