VOL. 50 ISSUE 35 SEPTEMBER 4, 2013 P85 Pat Smage dominated this year's AIReS MotoTrials National Trials Series. GE AGAIN! so far this year. When the top Pros finally got to section nine, Smage took two points when he lost his balance in the slippery creek that was the centerpiece of the section. He went on to finish the lap with a total of three points for the first loop. Webb, in the meantime, finished the lap with two points after taking a one in section nine and another one in section 12. Smage was able to clean section nine on his second lap; however, section 12 was a different story. "I knew Cody was riding well, so I did my best to correct my errors from lap one," said Smage. "On the second lap, I was riding smoother and was clean up to section 12. However, I didn't make a big splatter out of the creek in that section and that left me with a five. I had a feeling Cody had these sections figured out, and that five would put me out of contention for a win." Webb did have the sections figured out, indeed, and finished the second and third laps with clean cards, giving him a total of two points for the day. Smage also cleaned the entire final lap, but it was too little too late as Webb took the win with a total of two points compared to eight for Smage. "It feels really good to get this win after coming off my TKO win last week," said Smage. "There aren't too many people in the world who could do that (win an extreme off-road race and a National Trials on back-to-back weekends)." Third went to Bryan Roper, finishing just three points behind Smage. Meanwhile, Roper's Sherco USA teammate Logan Bolopue was fourth, ahead of Gas Gas USA's Eric Storz in fifth. Sunday After getting beaten soundly by Webb on Saturday, Smage was on a mission on Sunday, and he came out and dominated the event, dropping only one point all day, despite a small mechanical problem before the start. "Today started off terribly," said Smage. "I had been running a special clutch from the factory since Arizona, and it worked
