AMA GRAND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Texter Does The Basic Double
Shayna Texter just might
be the future of AMA Grand
National Mile racing – at least
based on her dominating wins
in the non-points-paying Basic
Twins exhibition race. Texter
and her Crosley Radio/Kawasaki was so fast in Saturday's
race that AMA Pro Racing
officials allowed more open
fuel intake restrictor plates
for the Harley-Davidsons in
Sunday's race.
She won Saturday's race by 11.4 seconds, this in a
12-lap event. And her fastest lap was faster than Grand
National winner Bandon Robinson's best lap time
(35.8 seconds vs. 36.2).
Texter raced a Kawasaki EX650.
In Sunday's race it was a bit closer, but Texter still
pulled away in the end, winning by 4.2 seconds. Cody
Johncox (Harley-Davidson) and Jason Isenock (Kawasaki) shared the podium with Texter in both Saturday
and Sunday's races, with the
two swapping positions in the
two finals.
"It means a lot to me personally to win these races because a lot of people thought I
was too small and would have
a tough time handling a Twins
bike," Texter said. "To see that
my lap times were so competitive against the Expert times
made me pretty happy too."
Texter said she would like to move up to the Grand
National class next year if she can find the right bike
and team.
Basic Twins is a new class slated to debut next
season to provide a stepping-stone for Pro licensed
riders, allowing them to race twin-cylinder machines
as they make the transition to the Grand National
Championship. The Basic Twins class is a re-envisioning of the Basic Expert Twins division that ran as part
of the series during the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
