MOTOGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
Lorenzo's win ended a string of
six races without a victory for the
defending World Champion.
the better of it with two laps to go
- only to slide off unhurt.
"I made only a little mistake,
but when you are on the limit it is
enough," he said.
Hayden passed Smith with
two laps to go, but was not delighted with eighth. "We got beat
by more than we expected," he
said. "We made a step this morning then I had a crash in warm-up
and destroyed that bike. Losing
the front so quickly didn't give me
confidence for the race."
Smith, on the softer tire, said:
"Unfortunately the temperatures
remained cold, and after just
three laps we already knew it
would be a difficult race. Probably the hard tire would have been
the right choice, but we didn't
have time to evaluate it yesterday. I didn't want to finish behind
Nicky, but after Andrea crashed I
decided it was safer."
A brave ride put Aleix Espargaro 10th– he had broken a little finger and hurt his neck in a tumble
the day before. He had caught
and passed Andrea Iannone's
Energy TI Ducati before half distance, leaving him to fall back
under threat from a battling Hector Barbera and Colin Edwards –
they finished in that order.
Danilo Petrucci and the Came
Suter BMW narrowly won the last
point from Randy de Puniet.
Marquez left Silverstone with
233 points; Pedrosa and Lorenzo leave with 203 and 194, respectively. Rossi is drawing clear
of Crutchlow, 156-136; and Bradl
has 113.
