race at Silverstone on the
weekend.

o American road racing fans
the name Leondro Mercado
might be vaguely familiar. In Europe, Mercado is doing a good
job of making a name for himself.
The former AMA road racer
and Red Bull Rookies Cup young
gun got his first win of the 2013
season in the World Superstock
1000 series at the Nurburgring in
o mark 10 years since the
passing of the late, great Barry Sheene, Silverstone hosted a
Tribute Parade to one of Britain's
most popular and successful motorcycle racers on Sunday with
the parade featuring long-time
Sheene friend and former racer
Steve Parrish lapping Silverstone
on the ex-Sheene Suzuki XR27.
While Sheene never won his
home race, his battle with Kenny Roberts around Silverstone
in the 1979 British Grand Prix is
widely hailed as one of the greatest motorcycle GPs of all time.
"I think it's a wonderful tribute;
obviously he was the last British
premier class champion, but it
will also mean a great deal to me
- I'll be very proud out there, riding a bike that he last raced here
in '79, in that epic encounter with
Kenny Roberts," Parrish said prior to the ride.
Germany this past weekend. Riding for Team Pedercini Kawasaki,
the 21-year-old Argentinian won a
hard-fought battle with the series
leader Sylvain Barrier in the series that runs in conjunction with
the World Superbike Championship.
In the championship, Barrier
still leads with 165 points to Niccolo Canepa's 125. Mercado has
