JOHNCOX GETS IT
Pro Singles
Cody Johncox, riding a
winner Cody
Sunnyside Cycle Yamaha,
Johncox
took his second-career
win in the Pro Singles final, (96B) leads
Stephen
edging out Shayna Texter
and Stephen Vanderkuur at Vanderkuur
the flag. The top three were (1) and
Shayna Texter
nearly side-by-side at the
finish. Johncox commented (25A) in their
Pro Singles
that he used the tallest
battle in
gearing ever at the track and
Virginia.
commented, "It's felt like we
were in a tuck forever down
these long straights."
As usual in a Pro Singles race it came down
to the final drafting maneuvers down the front
straightway on the last lap. Johncox found
himself in a position he wasn't thrilled with.
"I didn't want to be leading coming out of
the last turn, but it just ended up happening,"
said Johncox, who scored his first win of the
season. "I just tried to tuck in and make myself as small as I could and hope for the best."
Wyatt Maguire added a point to his Pro
Singles Series lead, finishing fifth over series
rival Ryan Wells, who was sixth. The two continue to be first and second in the standings.
front, managing his lead on Lloyd
Brothers Racing Ducati's Henry
Wiles and taking the checkered
flag with a 1.885-second lead in
hand. Wiles overcame an issue
with his Ducati on the starting
grid, where the bike seemed to
be running on only one cylinder.
Once up to speed the Ducati
cleared out and Wiles charged to
the lead group.
Taking third was TJ Burnett/
USC Kawasaki's Brandon Robinson, about seven seconds
behind the leaders. The early
season points leader, who went
through a rough spate mid-year,
has emerged as a series contender again after two consecutive podium finishes.

Briefly...
Nichole Cheza had a great race
going until the chain broke on her
Harley in the main. Cheza battled
her fiancé Jared Mees in their
heat race with Mees just edging
his wife-to-be at the line. That put
Cheza in the Dash for Cash. In the
National, Cheza got shuffled back
to the back of the field, but started
working her way up and was running 12th when the chain broke
on her Global Products/HarleyDavidson Motor Company-backed
XR750.
Matt Weidman was back in action
at Colonial Downs after sitting out
most of the season due to a concussion. Weidman had a solid outing in his return, riding the Scott
Powersports Kawasaki to 10th. "It's
been almost a full year since I've
ridden this bike," Weidman said.
"I felt comfortable as soon as I got
back on it."
Sammy Halbert was missing from
the entry list for the second race.
Still no word from the Halbert camp
as to why he's sitting out, although
