Bryan Smith, the Kawasakimounted Michigander totally
dominating the evening of
racing at the Indiana State
Fairgrounds.

Ducatis all night in his first appearance with the team and was forced
to use a provisional to race in the
main. He said they found junk in
the fuel line on one bike and had
electrical demons with the backup bike as well. He finished 11th in
the National. "I was pushing trying
to figure out what the bike would
do," Johnson said. "My best laps
were at the end, so I think we made
some big strides and I look forward
to next week."
Shaun Russell ran a Lloyd Brothers Aprilia that sat dormant for
some time. He looked solid on the
bike, but a crash in his heat race
damaged the bike enough that he
wasn't able to continue.

Smith took the guesswork out
of who would win, but the battle
for second was intense all race
and came down to a big pack
that included Robinson, Mees,
Baker and JD Beach.
Standings leader Baker had a
strategy to try to get defending
champ Mees at the end, but he
didn't count on Robinson coming
up and getting into the mix.
"That was probably one of the
most hard-fought races I've ever
had to go for," Baker said. "It was
a horrible first and second lap; I
got shuffled around on the backstretch and got kind of cut off and
had to back out of the throttle and
let a bunch of people fly past me.
I got in behind Brandon [Robinson] and we started picking guys
off. Finally I got by Brandon and
I reeled right back in on Jared.

where I was until I got behind
Jared and I peaked around him
and saw Bryan way up there and
I was like, 'Hey, we're on the podium again. Cool!'
"That's where the race really
started. I had a little bit of a strategy going for Jared [Mees] to get
