P36 IN THE WIND CANADIAN ROAD RACER DIES C anadian road racer Christian Auger has died as a result of the head injuries incurred in his crash in the Amateur Superbike race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on August 11. Auger was involved in a singlebike accident in turn eight on the opening lap of the race, which was promptly stopped and eventually cancelled. The 34-year-old Auger was running fifth in the Amateur Superbike point standings entering the race with top finishes of fifth at Autodrome St-Eustache and Atlantic Motorsport Park earlier this year. "Everyone involved with the series is saddened by this news and we extend our sympathies to Christian's family and friends," said series director of competition Colin Fraser. "He was a valued member of our racing community and will be greatly missed." SPECIAL EDITION GSX-R1000 TO CELEBRATE THE BIG 5-0 A nniversaries are special, especially when it's your 50th. Stay married that long and you're likely to renew vows or exchange new rings. If you are a motorcycle manufacturer with a rich history in America celebrating a 50th, you throw a celebration for fans at one of racing's most hallowed grounds - Indianapolis Motor Speedway - during the Red Bull Indy Grand Prix. As for hardware… well, if you're Suzuki you celebrate with the launch of a special-edition GSX-R1000. And this one is not to be confused with their 2013 One-Millionth commemorative edition GSX-R1000 that celebrated Suzuki's milestone of a million GSXRs produced – the model with a limited production of 1985 worldwide (symbolizing their first year of production in 1985) with 1000 available in the U.S. Suzuki has upped its game for their 50th anniversary Special Edition GSX-R1000, making it even more exclusive with an even more limited-production run of 100 - 50 of which will be sold in the U.S. market. Known as the 2014 GSXRR1000 SE, internally and geometry wise the bike is the same as the current model GSX-R1000 – but cosmetically, this one is blinged out with a look fitting of a milestone anniversary. The bike has many special features aesthetically, the most notable being the polished and chrome-plated frame and mat silver colored bodywork with special graphics. Accenting the bling of the chrome are blue anodized outer fork tubes and a blue colored fuel cap. The clutch cover, rear shock spring and engine components, such as the generator cover and engine sprocket cover, are painted clear-coated blue. The drive chain, the headlight inner, and seat are also blue. Following the theme, the special-edition GSX-R has special machine-polished rims with the spokes painted blue with a clear coat, and a black-anodized front brake caliper. The swingarm is mat black and the exhaust pipes are polished with a polished and clear-coated muffler with black anodized end cap. To go along with the limited special-edition GSX-R1000 is a special speedometer panel design, a serial number plate and a special key fob. Even the raised "S" emblem is unique to the model and is found on the fuel tank and front fork bracket. The MSRP and arrival time of the Special Edition GSX-R has yet to be released. Andrea Wilson
