ROUND 11/AUGUST 17, 2013
MILLER MOTORSPORTS PARK/TOOELE, UTAH
MOTOCROSS
P70
LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP
(Top) No one was really
expecting Eli Tomac to clinch
the 250 title early in Utah, not
even Eli. But guess what?
(Bottom) Riders had to make
dramatic midair corrections
when a windstorm pounded the
second 250 moto.
wanted to keep the championship alive another week. You'd
think that Dungey would have
pulled out all the stops not to let
that happen; maybe he did, but it
wasn't enough to keep Villopoto
from getting it done.
"The only thing standing in our
way today was getting two good
starts," Villopoto said of his strategy at Miller. "That's what we
were wanting, then just see how
the rest of the day played out."
He met his goal by holeshotting the first moto and having the
lead by the end of the first lap of
the second moto. He easily won
both motos, just like he did last
week at Unadilla. Even Dungey
said that Villopoto and his team
deserve the championship.
But Villopoto wasn't the only
rider to clinch a title in Utah, so
did GEICO Honda's Eli Tomac.
He came into the race with a
39-point lead over West 250 Supercross champ Ken Roczen,
the only rider who had a mathematical shot of beating Tomac
out of the 250 National Championship. Tomac needed to increase that to 50 points in order
to clinch the title early in Utah. An
11-point gain was a certainly not
out of the question but not likely,
